Number Games and Puzzles
hi glad you are visiting! If you are here for the first time we suggest reading through the How it works section which you can find further below.
Once the basics are in place - have a look at our Games section or if you are more of a "puzzling" type take a look at our Puzzle section. Alternatively if you would like to play online hit the top button and go to MosaicOnline.
HOW IT WORKS
The Mosaic games and puzzles are based on the idea that numbers on its own can represent an equation.

First what is an equation? In this context it is a calculation on one side of an equation and a result or calculation on the other side of the equation for example 3 = 2+1.

If you take away the operator signs meaning + (plus), - (minus), * (multiply), / (divide) then 321 can represent 3 = 2+1 or 3-2 =1 and 123 can represent 1+2 = 3 or 1 = -2+3. When playing Mosaic games or solving puzzles - you have to either identify which equation a number row represents or create an equation and its corresponding number row based on a given set of numbers.

Creating a number row with 3 digits which represent an equation is relatively straight forward. However adding another number increases the complexity as shown below:

-
422 translates into 4 = 2+2 or 4-2 = 2 or 4/2=2 or 4 = 2*2
-
3666 translates into 36 = 6*6 or 36/6 = 6

Guidelines
The general guidelines for Mosaic are:

-
The operators plus, minus, multiply and divide are valid operators
-
A number row can be read and represent an equation from left to right or right to left and similarly from top to bottom or bottom to top
-
The result or calculation is greater or equal to 0
-
The numbers in the result and calculations are whole numbers
-
Numbers representing an equation are written either horizontally, vertically or diagonally only
-
"Filling" zeroes for example 1+ 0 +1 = 2 are generally omitted; similarly 1 times or 1 divided with a number are omitted.

For advanced guidelines where the general operators above can be used, but also brackets, decimals, power of, rounding etc. the above rules apply with these additions:

-
The result is a whole or decimal number greater than, less than or equal to 0. The numbers in the calculations are a whole number or fractional number either positive or negative.

Anyway - if you play the Mosaic card games, read our game instructions or head over to www.MosaicOnline.com the guidelines will be explained in more detail.
